A Tales of Whispers and Rogues By Jordan Lee

A TALE OF WHISPERS AND ROGUES BY JORDAN LEE

Review to my Goodreads: The five stars was easy for me to give!  Reading A Tale of Whispers and Rogues created a whole new world in my head. A world, plot, story that have so much more to offer that I cannot wait to read the next one! I love all the characters and the build up of each one. There are times that I got a little exasperated that it seems that problems keeps on dropping and piling up for Colt and Owen but I guess it kept the book adventurous and interesting.

Summary From The Book:

Owen Greene must die.

Being Shadowborn, the Essence of a fallen god runs through Owen’s veins. It gives him power, but it comes with a bullseye painted on his back, one the Legion is determined to hit once they learn he exists. Wielding such power comes at the cost of his life, and with the Legion close to finding him, Owen must leave his home to escape their hands.

Charged with protecting Owen, Colt O’Malley knows the dangers that might accompany them. He's been tasked with protecting Owen on their dangerous journey with the promise that he can go home at the end of it. But what Colt didn’t count on was just how often that dimpled smile and tender-hearted Shadowborn would weaken him.

Fleeing the country to escape the Legion might have been their main goal, but neither Owen nor Colt had planned on falling for each other along the way. And with the Legion on their heels, falling in love couldn’t have happened at a worse time.A Tale of Whispers and Rogues is an M/M fantasy romance featuring a man gifted with the cursed power of a fallen god, the handsome rogue sworn to protect him, ruthless henchman, a mysterious shadow, a slow burn romance, and a budding romance with a HFN ending.

My Thoughts:

The Tales of Whispers and Rogues created a whole new world for me to explore on. It is more special since it is also focused on male-male romance!

The story started with a thrilling murder that eventually led to a reasonable one - to protect Owen Greene! The story will revolve around running away from a crime and potential death for Owen Greene because he is something that the Citadel wants to be cleansed for being a Shadowborn - people with special abilities.

The details and creativity of the story are great! The plot is totally adventurous as well as it contains a lot of traveling and camping.

The character development of Owen and Colt (Owen's protector) is also a slow burn romance! All the characters for me have redeeming qualities and even the villain is morally grey...or is he?

Book may contain or mentioned things about murder, violence and child abuse or death. So if these are triggers for you, you might want to check more reviews first.

Book has multiple point of views including the villain but mostly alternating between Colt and Owen.

There are a lot of characters to love but I think my favorite is Gilda. She is like a blessing to Owen and Colt.

The most memorable part for me is when Colt and Owen almost kissed but interrupted - it made me gasp and want to kill the interruption for my most anticipated moment being cut off! LOL.

What do I think of the title A Tales of Whispers and Rogues? The whispers most definitely pertained to Owen's abilities and Rogues is probably describing their status as runaways.

Basically, the book is adventurous, pro LGBTQ and a total fantasy.

My Favorite Line/s:

"You're not the only one who has been through hard times." - Owen page 249

Rating: 5/5 because the story is deeply engaging for me.

Spiciness: 1/5

Recommendation: To those who wants to read a book that has a lot of adventure and camping. For those looking for fantasy world but have male-male romance!

Red, White and Royal Blue By Casey McQuistoon

RED, WHITE AND ROYAL BLUE BY CASEY MCQUISTON

Review to my Goodreads: Interesting from the start but kind of bored when I am more than half of the book that I had to take a pause from reading it. But after I got over the part and it became fun again, I could not put it down until I finished.

Reading this made me wish that if it really happens in reality that people would be more accepting like in the book. Love wins.

Summary From The Book:

What happens when America’s First son falls in love with the Prince of Wales?

When his kother became President of the United States, Alex Claremont-Diaz was promptly cast as the American equivalent of a young royal. Handsome, charismatic, genius - his image is pure millennial-marketing gold for the White House. There’s only one problem: Alex has a veef with an actual prince, Henry, across the pond. And when the tabloids get hold of a photo involving an Alex/Henry altercation, U.S./British relations take a turn for the worse.

Heads of family and state and other handlers devise a plan for damage control. Stage a truce beteen the two rivals. What at first begins as a fake, Instagrammable friendship grows deeper, and more dangerous, than either Alex or Henry could have imagined. Soon Alex finds himself hurtling into a secret romance with a suprisingly unstuffy Henry that could derail the campaign and upend two nations.

Casey McQuiston’s Red, White, and Royal Blue proves that true love isn’t always diplomatic.

My Thoughts:

I read the version with extra content which I think adds more realism for the book’s ending.

The story is about two nation’s charismatic influential people who hates each other - Henry, the Prince of Wales and Alex, U.S. First Son.
An incident happened that they need to clear their names to show the world that they are good friends which in reality they are not. Forced to be together, they learned to be friends and later on developed as lovers which complicates their roles and the two nations.

The book is fun to read specially from the start but mid-way, I got a little bored as it mentions a lot of political insights as well. It took me a week or two before I got over the slump and read it again. It got more interesting again after I was able to get over the few boring chapters.

There are a lot of scenes that made me laugh specially the bantering between Alex and Henry. It is an adventurous and young love and yet complicated - which makes me root for the couple more while reading.
There are some sexual scenes, mentions of drug use, abandoment, homophobia, deception that makes me consider it as an new adult book. Though others consider it as young adult.

The point of view is focused mainly to Alex but the bonus chapter is Henry’s point of view.

I love both Alex and Henry as well as Henry’s sister. The major character development for me is Henry’s road to coming out. For the best redeeming character - it is Luna’s development for me.

The most memorable scene for me is Alex and Henry’s first kiss and the scenes before that.

What do I think about the title Red, White and Royal Blue? I think the book name represent’s the two nation’s flag colors. I do not know if there is more meaning behind the title but I think it fits the story well.

Basically, the book is a romantic-comedy coming out story with twist of forbidden romance and enemies to lovers.

My Favorite Line/s:

"Because you’re it, okay I’m never gonna love anybody in the world like I love you." - Alex page 270

Rating: 4/5 because the plot is good but I had a part where I got bored in reading mid-part of the story - I would give it a five if I was fully engaged.

Spiciness:2/5

Recommendation: To those who wants to read a love story specially an LGBT focused couple. It has some politics as well if it is your thing.

Devil’s Vice By Mindy Paige

DEVIL'S VICE BY MINDY PAIGE

Review to my Goodreads:

Dark romance between Lillith, an intern working in the Emergency Room, and Kain - a patient she saved. Kain is mysterious and has a dark pull but Lillith cannot stay away from him, even when Lillith discovered that Kain is part of a Motorcycle Club/Gang that she should avoid.

Reading the first few chapters of this book is a rush! I keep on guessing on what happens next for every turn of the page.

However, there are some things to consider before reading this specially for its triggers.

Title: Devil’s Vice

Author: Mindy Paige

Type: Fiction

Category: Adult

Publisher:

Genre: Dark Romance, Suspense/Thriller

Tropes: Touch her and die, Age Gap, BDSM, Slow Burn

Total Chapters: 54 + Foreword and Epilogue

Total Pages: 366 (Ebook)

Table of Contents: Yes (Ebook)

Summary From The Book: (From Goodreads)

When Lillith Harper saves the life of the deadliest member of the Hellfyre Motorcycle club, his appreciation quickly turns to obsession. The main problem? It's not entirely unwelcome. Even when people around her start to turn up missing. Or worse-dead.

There's something familiar about the scarred man, but Lillith can't seem to put her finger on it. Not that she's trying too hard.

Instead, her focus is on juggling the responsibility of her new position while battling the twisted desire at the thought of her masked stalker. But she's about to find out that when you dance with the devil for long enough, you pick up some of his habits.

My Thoughts:

I am new to dark romance and suspense/thriller kind of book but I started reading this genres after Verity. This is my next book of dark romance after Verity.

I was not expecting how dark and twisted the plot is but it got me hooked.

The story is about Lillith, a medical intern, saving the life of a patient named Kain. Kain who got enthralled by Lillith, stalks her and drags her to his dark ways. The plot continues as Kain and Lillith’s relationship develops…slowly! So yes, this book is a slow burn.

It is a quick read since I want to keep guessing on what happens next for every turn of the page.

Book has explicit sexual scenes and a lot of profanities used, mentions of rape, child neglect/abuse, illegal trafficking. Also contains murder/death, family death, violence, stalking, kidnapping, drugs, and deception.

The point of view is dual and alternates between Kain and Lillith. Although one chapter is from Ghost’s point of view.

My favorite character for this story is Ghost - there is something about him that makes me intrigued and I am wishing he will have his own spinoff story.

Both Kain and Lillith have slight character development for me. Kain might be morally gray but I did not see him fully redeemed yet.

The most memorable scene for me is when Drew’s true nature was uncovered.

What do I think of the title Devil’s Vice? Given Kain’s obsession with Lillith and vice versa, they were both playing something wicked and I think the title fits the story well.

The book is mainly dark romance with a lot of spiciness!

My Favorite Line/s:

"I'd find you in every lifetime, little flower. You shouldn't have worried about that. It was only see you later and never goodbye.” - Kain page 345

Rating: 3/5 The story plot is good and honestly I would still read the next books (and wishing Ghost will have his own story too) but there are parts that are too long or dragging for me specially during the end part that feels a little redundant for me.

Spiciness: 5/5

Recommendation: To those who loves red flag relationships, kidding aside - it is for people who loves dark romance with action.
