THE NEXT DAY: AFTER MAILING THE TAPES

Thirteen Reasons Why By Jay Asher

THIRTEEN REASONS WHY BY JAY ASHER

This time around, I watched the series before reading the book. I find that the details is more complete in the Netflix show which is quite a surprise because most of the times the books are thorough. Still, reading it made me feel more of Hannah's misery that I know most girls (like me) sometimes can relate to - the problems and the heartaches that were left unnoticed.
Title: Thirteen Reasons Why

Author: Jay Asher

Type: Fiction

Category: Young Adult

Genre: Drama

Publisher: Razorbill

Total Chapters: 15 chapters (It was put as Cassette Tape 1 Side A and B, etc.)

Total Pages: 288

Table of Contents: Not applicable

Summary From The Book:

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a strange package with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker - his classmate and crush - who committed suicide two weeks earlier.

Hannah's voice tells him that there are thirteen reasons she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out why.

Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a first-hand witness to Hannah's pain and learns the truth about himself - a truth he never wanted to face.

My Thoughts:

Since I watched the series before I read the book, I am not that excited with the book's summary. However, after finishing the book, I can say that I prefer the show. Why? Because everything is explained better in the show compared to the book. The book just circulated in about what Hannah shares on her tapes. No single scene about Hannah's parents.

The book's focus is only on Clay's point of view as he listens to all the tapes that he received.

I really cannot choose my favorite character because it just circulated on Clay and Hannah as well as some minor characters. But if I will choose one from the show, I like Tony.

The scent that made an impact on me about the book is how surprised Clay was when he discovered the tapes and the part where Hannah talks about him. His reaction that he could have done something about but its too late - reading that part made me feel like the emotions in the book are really real.

The title of the book explains the whole story - Hannah's thirteen reasons on why she killed herself.

This book is full of drama as Hannah pours out her heartfelt sentiments.

My Favorite Line/s:

"When you mess with one part of a person's life, you're messing with their entire life."

Rating: 3/5 because the story lacks so much details and about what will happen though I may think of this because the show explained everything in between the lines of the book.

Recommendation: This book is about bullying and the consequences of each person's actions. I recommend it if you wanted something dramatic.
