Angel Eyes By Ellie Jennings

ANGEL EYES BY ELLIE JENNINGS

Review to my Goodreads: Angel Eyes is about Juliet finding herself in Paris to pursue her passion for writing by attending a summer class after getting tired of her big time job as a lawyer in New York. There, he meets Gabriel, a painter that has secrets of his own.

Angel Eyes is an easy read for me that I enjoyed reading it before sleep. Romantic and fun to read. I liked the story, plot, and the setting used. It is well written and I cannot wait to read more as I believe it will be a series.

I am waiting more for Cristian’s story, that man deserves happiness!

Summary From The Book:

Some call it love at first sight; he calls it trouble. He swore never to fall for anyone again... so why can't he stay away from her?

Gabriel Beaumont has one rule when it comes to dating-don't.

After he found himself on the wrong end of love once, he swore to never let it happen again. And in the three years since he moved to Paris to open an art gallery, it's suited him just fine. Until her.

From the moment Juliet Chandler crashed into his life, she upended his entire world. She's a beautiful aspiring writer from New York who left her Big Law job to attend a summer institute in Paris, and he's happy to be her guide around the city if it means spending time with her. There's just one problem. He can't keep his eyes-or his hands-off her. She's the falling-in-love type, and he doesn't do relationships. But with summer coming to an end, he'll do anything to keep her. Even if it means facing the life he left behind.

My Thoughts:

The story is about Juliet, a kind and efficient lawyer working in New York whose true passion is to write. Due to urging of a friend and somehow feeling the burn out at work, she decided to attend a summer class for writing in Paris. Here comes Gabriel, a painter who falls in love hard at first sight to Juliet. Can he make Juliet stay specially with his baggages?

The book is fun and easy to read, I enjoyed reading it before sleep at night. It was romantic and exciting.
The point of view of the book started as dual alternating with Juliet and Gabriel but later on, there are chapters with Cristian’s point of view.

In my opinion, the most character development is the FMC, Juliet. It is nice to see in the book on how she developed from someone who just follows what others want to someone who is independent and makes her own decisions.

From the previous book that I read before this (Love is Ale You Need), I am now starting to resent the name “Kyle” because here, a character Kyle is another douchebag. LOL. And again, I hate him and glad that Juliet got rid of him.

Most memorable scene for me is when Cristian went to Juliet like a friend in shining armor on one of her down times.

Angel Eyes has mentions or contains of cheating, child neglect, sexual scenes, deception, gambling.

The title Angel Eyes pertained to a painting and has been mentioned in the book.

The book is romantic that will make you teary and swoon with the sweetness. Annoyed with the twists.

My Favorite Line/s:

"Take a long look in the mirror and figure out why I always come in second place in the eyes of everyone I've ever loved." - Cristian page 242

Rating: 5/5 because the plot is good, engaging and I had a good time reading it

Spiciness: 3/5

Recommendation: To those who wanted to read romance and about friendship.

Love Is Ale You Need By Gia Stevens

LOVE IS ALE YOU NEED BY GIA STEVENS

Review to my Goodreads: Rylee - a single mom who had been through enough and learned from mistakes is cautious to be in a relationship again until Trey comes into her life…Trey however is a known playboy and does not do relationships! So yup…they are now friends with benefits!

I love the banters and how Rylee and Trey’s relationship slowly progressed in the book. It is a good romantic-comedy story that made me laugh (specially when Marcie comes in!)
It comes with spice, a bit of suspense as well!

The story is quite realistic and there are parts that are surely relatable for readers. I cannot wait to read the next, specially since I also love the side characters - I hope they get their own spinoff too!

Summary From The Book:

A steamy friends with benefits, surprise pregnancy standalone novel by romantic comedy author Gia Steven...

We went from fling to friend-zone. Now I have to tell him he’s going to be a dad.

After my ex-husband left, I became a single mom and vowed never to date a guy in a suit again.

Then Trey Wilson entered my life. The guy who lives in suits. He’s charismatic, good-looking, and charming AF.

Everything that can make any woman swoon, including me.

What started as a one-night fling turned into a mid-morning office quickie, followed by an afternoon rendezvous in my kitchen. Which ultimately led to the purchase of a new table.

After I told him we can only be friends, he's determined to be my best friend. The more time we spend together the boundary between friends and benefits blur.

Deep down, I know he’s exactly like the others. Once they get what they want, they’re out the door, leaving me to pick up the pieces of my broken heart. Been there. Done that. And I have a daughter to prove it.

So the moment emotions get involved, I quickly suppress them and do what I know is right.

I end whatever this is.

Except now I can’t do that when the white stick shows two pink lines.

Love Is Ale You Need is a friends with benefits, surprise pregnancy romantic comedy. Be prepared to laugh-out-loud one minute and swoon the next in this steamy standalone romcom. The Brews and Flings series is a spin-off of the Harbor Highlands series. You’ll see a lot of familiar characters but also new ones. Each book in the Brews and Flings series is set in the same world, and delivers a guaranteed happily ever after.

My Thoughts:

The story is about Rylee, a strong single mother who is afraid to fall in love again because of her past mistakes and meeting Trey, the playboy, who catches her attention.  The book revolves around Rylee and Trey's friends with benefits relationship.

The book is fun to read specially with Rylee and Trey's banters.  There are some sexual scenes that definitely have spiciness.

The point of view of the book is dual alternating with Rylee and Trey but the epilogue is under Dessa - Rylee's friend.

For me, the most that has character development is Trey because of how romantic he turned out after being a playboy. For the first time, can I share who I hated the most in this book? Kyle! He is a complete douchebag. (Now it gave me an idea to also share which character I hate the most from every books I read starting from this book!)

Most memorable scene for me is when Trey stormed out of Rylee when he learned about the unexpected pregnancy. I also love every scenes between Trey and Abby.

Love is Ale You Need has mentions or contains of cheating, divorce, stalking, abandonment.

The title Love is Ale You Need might be pertaining to the ales that they love to drink.

The book is a romantic comedy that will make you laugh, teary and swoon with the sweetness.

My Favorite Line/s:

"There is only one person I can depend on. Myself. And it's better that way, Less feelings. Less complications." - Trey page 12

Rating: 4/5 because the plot is good, engaging and I had a good laugh.

Spiciness: 2/5

Recommendation: To those who wanted to read a romantic comedy love story that is quite realistic in terms of the situations.

Lady Luck By Lane O'Neil

LADY LUCK BY LANE O'NEIL

Review to my Goodreads: Story is about Bree, who experienced hardships in life and abandonment who then meets Vinh who showed her what it feels to be loved - a real one. Vinh showing Bree that there is a world out there better than inside the casino.

Gosh, the slow burn of romance between Vinh and Bree - is good! This is my first time reading a setting mainly in a casino and it is unique making the plot interesting.

I love Vihn’s family - it shows a realistic and accepting bunch of people. Cody and Liem are a blessing to Bree - both BFF and found family.

I would have given it five stars if not for some parts that made me struggle a little to read. There are some in the first few chapters that are like all ideas thrown at once and can be smoothened out. There are a lot of things unanswered by the end but as the author also shared in the end, she did it specifically that way.

Summary From The Book:

Get ready to be swept away in a tale of love, luck, and resilience in Lady Luck, a contemporary romance that’s as atmospheric as a Mississippi sunset and as thrilling as a spin of the roulette wheel.

Fortune may favor the bold, but lately, it hasn’t favored Bree Faust.

Raised in the neon-lit embrace of Fortuna Casino & Resort, Bree is a twenty-two-year-old with more than a smattering of freckles and a sense of loyalty that runs deep. When change is thrust upon her again, she finds herself at a major crossroads and is torn between embracing her legacy as Lady Luck or drawing a card for a new life filled with unknowns.

Enter Vinh Lott, a twenty-nine-year-old with a fierce protective streak and a heart scarred by fire. A reserved software engineer moonlighting at his parents’ new restaurant, Vinh is the steady rock Bree never knew she needed. When fate brings them together in the chaos of the casino, Bree faces the biggest gamble of her life—trusting Vinh to be both her anchor and safe harbor in the greatest storm she has ever faced.

As obstacles loom, from Bree’s demanding grandmother, the return of an antagonistic former friend, and the temporary nature of Vinh’s stay on the coast, their love story unfolds against the glittering backdrop of a casino resort. Will Bree and Vinh beat the odds, or will they lose it all in the grand game of love?

Lane O’Neil’s debut novel is more than a romance; it’s a journey through abandonment, trust, and self-discovery. With heartwarming moments, an action-packed climax, and scorching-hot scenes, Lady Luck is a passionate read with laugh-out-loud moments that will make you believe in the magic of love, even in the eye of the storm.

My Thoughts:

The story started with a child in a casino. Unusual, right? But Bree grew up in a life inside a casino. Being abandoned by her father and raised by her grandmother who is a gambler. Bree experienced hardship in life and then she met Vinh - a gentleman who has past trauma as well but fell in love hard to Bree. Vinh showed Bree a life outside casino and read the book for their slow burn romance!

There are a lot of things unanswered in the book but as the author shared in the end, she wrote it that way. So I hope there would be a second book!

The point of view of the story is alternating between Bree and Vinh.

My favorite character is Liem! There is something in Liem making me wish I have a friend like that. Or like Cody as well! Both characters are such a good influence to Bree.

Major character arc and development for Bree. From someone who lived to please others, she sure matured in the book specially in the end.

My favorite part of the book is every bit of scenes between Vinh and Bree - those two make me swoon!

Story might mention or contain: Gambling, parental death, use of profanities, fire, injury, illness, physical violence, alcohol consumption, sexual scenes, panic attacks, deception, abandonment.

The title, Lady Luck, is pretty much summarized the main heroine, Bree.

My Favorite Line/s:

"Don't waste your time questioning why you're happy. Just be happy." - Cody page 83

Rating: 4/5 because the story is unique and I cannot wait to read more about Vinh and Bree and unlock all the missing parts of the story!

Spiciness: 3/5

Recommendation: To those who loves to read anything about romantic and slow burn romance.

Excerpt

Copyright 2024 Gia Stevens

“Didn’t we go over this?” I push off until I’m standing to my full height and hold up one finger. “Dinner sounds like a date.” I add a second finger. “Dates lead to relationships.” “It’s dinner. It’s not like I’m asking for your hand in marriage. Unless that will help my chances. I’ll get on one knee right now.” “Guess what I think about that?” “What?” With my other two fingers still in the air, I add a third. Then I curl my pointer and ring finger to my palm leaving only my middle finger. A grin curls around his full lips. “That was good. But I don’t speak finger, so you have to give me a good reason why?” “Because you’re… Trey.” “That’s not a good reason.” “You’re not my type.” “Sexy. Confident. Well-endowed aren’t your type?” I snort a laugh. “More like cocky and full of himself aren’t my type. Plus, you wear a suit.” “What’s wrong with the suit?” He runs his hands down the lapels of his jacket. “Nothing per se, but I just don’t do suits. They’re too…suity. It only adds to the cocky and arrogant thing you got going on.” I wave my hand over his body. “Well, I can fix that.” Trey stands and removes his suit jacket and drapes it over the backrest of his stool. His fingers dig into the knot of his tie, loosening it. Next, he pops the button at his collar. “What are you doing?” I ask. “Taking off the suit.” “You’re going to strip? Right here, in a full bar?” “Yup.” He undoes a couple more buttons. I want to tear my gaze away, but I can’t. Instead, I spit out whatever words I can muster. “Keep your clothes on. No one wants to see you naked.” Nora smacks my arm, and I jerk my head to face her. From the corner of her mouth she says, “Speak for yourself. I kinda want to see what he’s packing underneath.” I narrow my gaze at her. She shrugs and slinks away but keeps a close eye on Trey in case he does remove the rest of his clothes. She wouldn’t want to miss that. Hell, right now I don’t want to miss it either. Trey clears his throat and I twist around to meet his gaze. “So, what’s it going to be? Am I getting naked right here or are we going on a date?

Spells and Shadows By Sonja F. Blanco

SPELLS AND SHADOWS BY SONJA F. BLANCO

Review to my Goodreads: A full of twists and a lot of character development in the story making the final book of the Witch of Ware Woods epic! There are a lot to like in the plots and characters but I am amazed with the thought of light and dark grimoires! They are a fun addition to the world of Ware Woods!  For those who loves fantasy, you will like this book as it contains about witches, wolves, vampires, dragons and so much more - a world inside a book that is well defined and descriptive, beautifully written. Well done, Sonja! ❤️☺️

Genre: Fantasy, Romance

Tropes: Found family, Slow burn romance, Bonded/Fated mates, Dark and Light magic, Magical world

Total Chapters: 46 + Epilogue

Total Pages: 401

Table of Contents: Yes

Summary From The Book:

A forbidden spell.

An evil forged by shadows.

And a defiance that will bring the magical world to its knees.

Sara is reeling from a twisted betrayal and her unexpected part in increasing the Shadow Mother’s strength. Now she is forced to trust the secretive Global Council to vanquish the wicked entity. Except Sara isn’t one to place her fate in the hands of others.

When her intentions go horribly awry and dissent fractures the Global Council, Sara scrambles to convince the individual sacred sites of witches, shifters, and vampires to set aside centuries of deep-rooted distrust and join Ware Woods against the growing darkness. But not everyone believes in Sara.

Needing to stop the Shadow Mother before she claims Thomas, Sara risks everything on a bloody spell for knowledge—and discovers a fiery revelation.

As Ware Woods shatters around her and the safety of everyone she loves hangs in the balance, Sara must do the inconceivable. Become the sacrifice.

This breathtaking finale to the Witch of Ware Woods series is a fierce embrace of heart-pounding twists, fiery romance, wit, fury, and spine-tingling magic.

Perfect for fans of fierce females, swoony bonded mates, found family, banter, magical forests, treehouses, grimoires, and happily ever afters.

My Thoughts:

The story started right after the second book and it is awesome because I felt like I am just watching episode per episode. Sara continues to make plans and gain allies to fight the darkest enemy. Specially when the love of her life, Thomas is in danger.

Finally, in this book, the root of all Sara's trouble has finally been brought to light. The last part of the series is easy to finish and now I am hanging and I feel like the other characters and sacred sites deserves their own spin off stories.

The point of view of the story is with Sara.

My favorite character is Samson! I cannot believe I said that! LOL! But I also love the grimoires - they are a fun addition!

Major character arc and development for Sara in this book. Her attitude has also improved and she seemed more matured.

My favorite part of the book is the story of the past.

Story might mention or contain: Death, murder, deception, violence.

The title, Spells and Shadows, I think is meant to describe all the spells that Sara has to learn to undo the evil but for the shadows, it might mean a lot of things in the book - like Samson's power, or the dragons...

My Favorite Line/s:

"But you need to know the right choice is not the easiest choice." - Mother page 341

Rating: 5/5 because the story is unique and truly magical and action packed!

Spiciness: 1/5

Recommendation: To those who loves to read anything about witches, wolves, vampires and any other magical beings you could think of.

Death and Dragons By Sonja F. Blanco

DEATH AND DRAGONS BY SONJA F. BLANCO

Review to my Goodreads: The story picked up right after the first book and I devoured this more than the first book! All the new characters and magical beings are a good addition. Sara and her found family's character arcs are wonderfully written. The twists in the plot had me surprised and the ending has me wanting for more and it is a good thing I was chosen to read the next book as part of ARC because I will literally start reading it as soon as I finish this post!

Summary From The Book:

A bargain with the enemy.
A spell aided by Death.
And a need to protect all she loves at any price.

Sara Lochton broke the curse and released her magic to become High Witch of Ware Woods. But she is new to the magical world, and her inexperience puts the forest and everyone she loves—including her bonded mate, Thomas—at risk.

When tragedy strikes and her sworn enemy, Samson, warns of a formidable evil intent on destroying their entire magical region, Sara recklessly agrees to a blood bargain with him. But the pact is a tenuous truce for Sara. Determined to best Samson and defeat the evil, she conjures aid from powerful yet questionable allies—an arrogant vampire, an imposing wolf shifter, and an evasive witch.

As darkness and dragons descend upon Ware Woods, Sara must decide who she can trust and how far she will go to save those she loves. And face the fatal consequences.

Death & Dragons is the second book in the Witch of Ware Woods trilogy, an upper YA contemporary paranormal series with a strong female main character, a diverse cast of family and found family, unique magic, a touch of romance, and a world so fresh you can smell the pine trees.

Expect witches, a one-of-a-kind vampire, shifters, dragons, a pinch of death, a sentient treehouse, a persnickety grimoire, and plenty of twists and turns in this spellbinding sequel as Sara keeps her friends close and her enemies even closer.

My Thoughts:

The story started right after the first book and I liked it. Sara continues to practice her abilities to be able to protect her cherished home. But her nemesis seems to be wanting her as an ally.

With a greater threat, Sara has no choice but to have a bargain and deal with her nemesis, Samson.

Sara also had more growth with her bonded mate, Thomas. Their relationship has blossomed compared to the first book. The story also introduced a new magical creature - the dragon!

Some of the loopholes from the first book was answered in Death and Dragons.

Compared to the first book, I devoured this book and after I finished it...I instantly started the last installment, Spells and Shadows.

The point of view of the story is still with Sara.

My favorite character if you can consider it a major one, is the Oak Tree. I love how sentient the tree is!

Major character arc and development for Samson - I totally did not expected this twist of the story!

My favorite part of the book is the introduction to Lethal! He is a fine addition to the story!

Story might mention or contain: Death, murder, deception.

The title, Death and Dragons speaks for the happenings and latest addition of the magical creature - dragon, in the story.

My Favorite Line/s:

"Don't apologize for needing me. Just tell me how I can help you." - Sara page 79

Rating: 5/5 because the story is unique and truly magical and action packed!

Spiciness: 1/5

Recommendation: To those who loves to read anything about witches, wolves, vampires and any other magical beings you could think of.

Witch of Ware Woods by Sonja F. Blanco

WITCH OF WARE WOODS BY SONJA F. BLANCO

Review to my Goodreads: Witch of Ware Woods is about Sara and the world she belongs to that was hidden from her as she may have a dark power that can bring destruction. Full of magic, mysteries and curses. I love how detailed the author, Sonja, did throughout the book. Each plant, tree, etc are well defined. It makes imagining the world inside the book easier. Reading the book reminded me a bit of The Craft movie because of the nature and witch craft and I am amazed how Sonja created the world of magic in this book. My favorite is the found family and their relationship to all each other. And of course SaraXThomas. The book has a lot of potential but for a first book, I will continue reading the next part of series to answer some loopholes that I find unanswered. The first 1/4 or half of the book maybe...is quite dragging but when I got over that part, I cannot put it down as I am eager to know what happens next. Plus, I am bombarded with a lot of character introduction from the start that I had a hard time keeping up until I got used to them by continuing to read the book. Last, I feel like the psych hospital scene is irrelevant and should have been omitted from the story.

Summary From The Book:

Dark secrets. Dangerous power. And a fate bound to a forest entwined with magic.

Eighteen-year-old Sara is not normal, and she’s losing her grip on hiding her inexplicable power. Hunted by a dark witch and facing devastating losses, Sara finds refuge in Ware Woods—a spellbinding forest protected by witches, shapeshifters . . . and thorny secrets. Here she discovers true magic and an electric connection with Thomas, a wickedly charming and equally headstrong witch from a dangerous family.

But Sara is an outsider who has brought darkness and a fatal prophecy to the forest. To prove she belongs in Ware Woods, Sara is tested and pushed to master new magics, all while concealing the monstrous force that makes her undeniably different.

As the dark witch closes in on her and an insidious blight threatens Ware Woods, Sara must release her full power—and either save the forest and everyone she loves or destroy everything.

Witch of Ware Woods is a contemporary paranormal fantasy filled with fast-paced wonder, fierce characters, deadly magic, forbidden romance, and a world so fresh you can smell the pine trees.

My Thoughts:

The story started with our heroine Sara who is a badass heroine by the way, she has so much angst in the start of the story that it seems she is capable of hurting someone when angry.

It turns out that her parents were hiding the truth from her. Before she can fully learn the secret, her parents were robbed from her. She will have a found family in a world that she is not aware of.

The book has so much potential and it is easy to assume it could be a show or movie one day. However, there are a lot of loopholes or unanswered questions for me like why does her hair turn gray and there is the scene of the mental hospital that I feel like very irrelevant to the story itself.

The first part of the book is a little struggle to read and there are too many characters introduced at once that it made it hard for me to keep up. However, after I got over the first few chapters - I cannot put it down.

The author has an amazing imagination and she could describe everything in vivid details that I can imagine the world well.

Point of view is focused on Sara, the heroine of the story.

My favorite character would be Caleb, Sara's cousin. He is so lovable!

The memorable part of the book for me is when Sara uncovered her sleeping secret and her heritage.

Before you read this book, it might contain or mention of parent death, car accident, mental disorder, abuse, rape. You might want to check reviews first if theses topics will trigger you.

The title Witch of Ware Woods speaks for itself - as Sara is the witch of Ware Woods - the place that her parents hid her from.

The books is magical and the author was able to combine all the magical beings in one book. Kind of reminds me a little of Vampire Diaries or The Craft.

My Favorite Line/s:

"Trusting someone meant opening yourself to disappointment and rejection, it meant being vulnerable and dependent." - Sara page 95

Rating: 4/5 because the story is unique and truly magical. I would give it a 5 if not for the dragging start of the story and loopholes unanswered.

Spiciness: 1/5

Recommendation: To those who loves to read anything about witches, wolves, vampires and any other magical beings you could think of.
